Question 4 - In my opinion, sir Gawain wants to keep in mind about the past game with the Green Knight, Morgan le Fay and old lady. So he doesn’t want to do similar mistake before, such as lie to someone, get temptation to someone or something other simple mistakes that he could do. Also, after his adventure, most of knights wear that girdle as a baldric to admire his credit, which had an adventure. So that other knights decided to wear a baldric from shoulder to waist- it also useful to hold a sword. Also, in my opinion, Sir Gawain think himself that he made a mistake and he feel shame himself. This idea may come from the Sir Gawain’s characteristic, which is great royalty and honesty. Sir Gawain’s sin is that he wasn’t say truth to the Green Knight until the game was all done or also we could think like he didn’t pray or talk to God about that lie/ non-honesty behavior so he feel extreme regretful about that honesty part. The first two days, Gawain told the truth and was honest to the hunter (The Green Knight) and kisses back to the hunter. However, the last day, third day, Gawain returned the kisses to hunter but didn’t return the green silky girdle that get from a hunter’s wife. We might think that this trivial lie is nothing to think as a crime or sin. And also, he is also a human; so it is general idea about desire to live longer, and that’s why he wear that green girdle when he had a battle with the Green Knight. However, Sir Gawain is really religious man, so it is hard to endure about he told lie. So he wants to remember that event by wearing a green girdle as a token.
