In sir Gawain and the green night there is a symbol of sin and weakness of a famous knight of the round table. Sir Gawain is known in this time to be one of the great Knights of the Round Table and sets out to accomplish an oath that he had made with the green knight but he is tempted alone the way by the wife of the host. For the first two day sir Gawain doesn’t keep any secrets from his host about the kisses he had received from the wife and returns the kisses to the host when the host arrives back from hunting. On the third day he falls into the trap of the wife and takes a green girdle and kisses but only returns the kisses. This is where this noble knight makes his mistake because it was all set up to test his worth and maybe even the worth of all king Arthurs Knights of the Round Table to see if they can be led into a shameful act. At first to sir Gawain the green girdle was given to him for protection and to make him invincible. This was important because the time was coming to an end to fight the green knight and he was getting nervous because of how the green knight could survive his head getting chopped off and run off on his horse. So sir Gawain keeps the green girdle a secret and departed to play the game with the green knight. While playing the game on the third swing of the green knights axe cut into sir Gawain neck to represent his shameful sin of secrecy. This scar would heal before he could return home to the round table so he made an oath to himself to wear the green girdle to remind him of how his weakness led him to sin. The girdle is green and to me that resembles fertility and purity so in sir Gawain sees it reminds him not to sin and be honest. The real sin should be giving in to temptation.
