In Chivalric romances woman play an important role. Guinevere was said to be a beautiful wise queen. Arthur was given the round table as part of the dowry when he married Guinevere. Her role made the round table strong because of her love for Lancelot. She had betrayed Arthur by committing adultery. Morgan le Fay was a magical sorcerer and half-sister to Arthur. She is Uther Pendragon’s, Arthur’s father, third daughter. She marries Uriens. She tries to kill Arthur so that her lover Accolon may be king. The Lady of the Lake protects an enchanted sword underwater. Igrayne was the wife of the Duke of Cornwall. Uther Pendragon seduces and later marries her. She is the mother of King Arthur. These women hold some type of power but are limited in what they can do throughout the story.
